No-surprises version: how long each stage takes, how dusty it really gets, and when you can use the kitchen again.
Most people getting a backsplash installed in Farmington have never hired a tile setter before, which is fair — most people do this once a decade. Here is the whole process, honestly, including the parts that are inconvenient.

Demo creates dust — there is no way around it. We seal the kitchen opening with plastic and sweep as we go. Expect a light film on nearby surfaces that wipes off, not a construction site.
An oscillating tool and a wet saw will be running during demo and cuts. If you work from home, plan around the first morning.
You keep the kitchen for most of the job. The sink area may be off-limits for a short period while the tile cures.
Light use the same evening after grouting, normal cleaning after about 72 hours, and harsh cleaners after a week.
Farmington splits sharply. Around historic Farmington Village and Unionville you have 18th- and 19th-century houses where nothing is square and the walls may be plaster over lath. Out toward the newer subdivisions the kitchens are large, open, and built to showcase materials. Practically, that means the prep stage can run longer in Farmington Village than in a newer house — full-height walls that run behind the range hood and up to the crown is common here, and it cannot be rushed. We build that into the schedule rather than pretending it will not happen.
Do I need to be home the whole time?

What if the wall is worse than expected behind the old splash?
